A couple of weekends ago we got an email from a friend in my mom’s group asking if anyone was interested in joining swim lessons at DolFUN in North Portland. We had talked about it and wanted to get Hadley started but we just hadn’t pulled the trigger. My friend Amber emailed the director asking if we could join in the middle of a session and if there was a Saturday noon class. She responded telling her that if we got at least 6 babies together, she would just start a class for us! Amber emailed and there was definitely enough interest. Yesterday was the first class.
Hadley looooooves bathtime. She loves splashing, kicking, and doesn’t even mind water getting poured over her head. We thought that this would be a sure sign of her loving the pool. We were wrong. I got her dressed in her little swimsuit (adorable!) and down to the pool we went. John got in the water this time so I could take pictures. In the future we plan on both getting in with her. I handed her off to daddy and the tears started. The instructor had them all holding on to the wall and all Hadley could do was cry and look around for mommy. John kept her distracted with an arsenal of funny noises, sounds, and then finally a pool toy. By the end of the class, there was kicking, splashing and even smiling. I’m looking forward to next week and getting in the water with her too.
We took her home after lessons for some lunch and a nap. We were meeting Jeff, Christie and Evan (if you don’t read Christie’s blog, Bonobo Frugivores, you should, she’s hilarious) for dinner at Hopworks Urban Brewery. We’ve eaten there a couple of times and even brought Seth there when he came to visit. The food is fantastic!! It is all organic (down to the condiments) in true Portland fashion. A lot of the decor and the building itself has been reclaimed, or reused somehow and it is super kid friendly. There were so many families there with their children, we had a hard time spotting the Tottens, and they had a tough time spotting us. We enjoyed a beer (their beer is incredible), some delicious food, great conversation and then we headed home with our growler filled with Survival Stout. All in all it was a great Saturday!
Hadley skillz update. Our little girl is crawling on all fours, and pulling up on everything she can. She has even let go a few times and stood there, unassisted before falling on to her booty. I’m glad we made the decision to cloth diaper, as it provides the extra padding when she “sits” back down.
I’m including some pictures from Halloween as well. We walked over the Jeff and Sofia’s house (there daughter, Ana, is 2 weeks older than Hadley) and had a beer or two with them. It was a great excuse to get Hadley back in her costume and take some pictures of the girls together. Ana was so cute in her little skeleton costume, I got a little picture crazy!

You misspelled your baby’s name. LOL!
Whatever. I didn’t edit it or anything. I would NEVER spell her name wrong, what kind of mother do you think I am?
How was Hildey’s class?
Hardy har har, Greenwizzles, hardy har har. I’m going to start watching the typos on your blog.
And you’ll find plenty of them. I can’t spell a lick, and I rarely use the spell checker because it changes words I don’t want it to change. Stupid space computers.
BTW, I’ll post a story about my two kids, Lucky and Mark, sometime this week.
OMG Jay, Lucky and Mark. I am laughing my butt off. Sincerely, John’s mom Marcy
