Spoon is so highly regarded in Portland. Obviously they are well liked elsewhere, but ever since Britt Daniel, Spoon’s frontman, moved to Portland and their latest album Ga Ga Ga Ga began receiving so much airtime on the local radio station (94.7 fm), it’s like Portland has gone ga ga (pun obviously intended) for Spoon.
And I finally get it. They are really good, at least their latest album, which is all I’ve had the opportunity to listen to yet. Previously, I just couldn’t decide if I liked the lead singer’s voice, and hearing songs on the radio it has certainly grown on me. His song are well written and from what I’ve read, they continue to experiment with their albums, much like Wilco – which obviously intrigued me.
If you haven’t already, take a listen and let me know what you think.
The Underdog
Don’t You Evah
There was a decent live performance of The Underdog on SNL not too far back. Epitonic has been raving about these guys for a few years now. I downloaded some of their stuff but never followed up…and what I had was a fairly good listen.
Jay? Is that really you? Somewhat agreeing on music with mua?
Go to Epitonic and look in the lower right corner in the Epicenter…Joe McPhee – Avant-garde jazz composer. Didn’t know I had a relative that was so musically inclined.
Ha. Yes, it’s really me. Some of their stuff I find a smidgin boring, but I dig the “Chicago on a Budget” type sound they have during that song.
And brush up on your French brotha’…it’s “Moi’” For future reference and whatnot.
Chicago on a budget – love it. Heather actually thought it was Billy Joel when she heard it on the radio, which, I can see.
I was going more for the mua, mua, mua of a fright night flick than French, but thanks for the correction.
