I have recently signed up for a Twitter account to see what all of the hype is about. Twitter, is a social networking tool that can be used to follow other Twitter user’s “conversations” or “tweets”. What the hell is a “tweet” you ask?
A “tweet” is a small message, or a post made by someone, say me. I did this one last night after reading an article from Stan Shroeder saying Twitter is a waste of time. Though I couldn’t elaborate in my tweet as they only allow for 140 characters, I think Stan has a point, but has also missed the point at the same time. If I were to follow someone’s tweet who only used it to say what they were making for breakfast or that they’re watching soft core porn, than yes, I believe Twitter is useless. Unless you’re a hungry pervert, following these types of conversations is a giant waste of time, which is where I agree with Shroeder.
Here’s where Shroeder missed the boat. I do think Twitter can be very useful as a tool to follow tweets from industry experts or others you trust. Say you were following someone in your industry, maybe they read a great article or attended a conference, it would be really helpful to follow their conversations to pick up on this information. Especially if you couldn’t attend the conference. Twitter lets others do some of the work for you. By following these “trusted” conversations, you gain more insight and knowledge about things that interest you.
So be lazy, and let someone else do all of the work. Start twittering. It’s a no-brainer.
Interesting as I’ve been following the Twitter thing on some blogs I read regularly. To be honest, I can’t see the point. Maybe it’s because I’m not an industry expert.
More baby pictures please and thank you.
I just posted some more baby pics – just for you.
I still don’t get it. Is it comments? Or is it an entirely separate thing? Is it shorthand blogging?
It sounds to me like a simpler way to stalk someone online.
I don’t get it at all. I hate the “Geeky Search Engine” posts almost as much as I hate the Twins posts on Jay’s blog.
@mfloyd: love the sock monkey photo, I assume that is you at Halloween.
@Jay: it’s micro blogging. Tweets are short snippets about whatever you want. It’s stalking, but in a good way, if there is such a thing. Those who twitter want others to follow their tweets, which is why it isn’t really stalking.
@Heather: You HAVE to love those posts, your the wife of a search engine geek. Embarrassed?
You are correct sir. Three weeks of sewing and hot glueing…

Check out Halloween Party Town for pictures of Zach in short shorts.
Twitter – I know a lot of people who use it and like it. I can totally see using it in a news fashion. Following a reporter or something like that, but I really don’t want to know what Bill Johnson had for lunch.
Nice use of tweeting format @ by the way.
