Last night I attended an award ceremony for the MAX Awards, which honors some of the best marketing campaigns in 2007 from agencies in the Portland area. I had submitted one of my clients for Best ROI Campaign. Provenance Hotels manages 5 different hotels; two are in Portland (Hotel Lucia and Hotel deLuxe), one in Seattle (Hotel Max), Tacoma, WA (Hotel Murano) and Nashville (Hotel Preston).
I actually had the 2nd best ROI percentage at 1,800%, but didn’t win. I was going up against some big brands in Pendleton Whiskey, which was the eventual winner. I can deal with that as I’m a fan of their whiskey (thanks to Jay’s Christmas present to Scott that I gladly helped drink). Another brand I was up against was Crater Lake soda, which is a gourmet soda made with pure cane sugar and no additives. I’ll have to try that.
Even thought I didn’t win, I did get to have a glass of Johnny Walker Red, which I hadn’t had before. Tasty stuff! So the evening wasn’t a complete waste
Does that mean that the hotels aren’t expensive enough then, or that you’re charging too much?
Those are some swanky hotels, John-O…are you fleecing these guys?
Sorry, had to ask.
Maybe we should jack up the price on the rooms. I’d rather do that than decrease my hourly
ROI? Second best ROI percentage at 1,800%? Please blog in English, not geek talk, or at last explain the geek talk to your less tech savvy readers so as to not alienate them.
Oh, wait…maybe that means return on investment, which is business talk as opposed to geek talk? I feel silly…
YOU should feel silly. For everyone that doesn’t know what ROI (Jim) means, here is a link explaining what it is and how to calculate it.

I hope this helps you all understand my post, and I apologize for alienating any of my readers (Jim).
